I hope this article in today’s The Herald, and the associated editorial comment, will make a difference to the bike lanes in Newcastle. We really need separated bike lanes here. And more public awareness about “car dooring” cyclists, noone does it intentionally. Newcastle City Council wants to raise the number of people cycling here and the only way to do it is to invest in better cycling infrastructure. This means prioritising spending on cycling infrastructure, which after all, is much cheaper than more highways and car parks for cars, and also costs much less to maintain.
