Bike storage

On a recent trip to Sydney, I found it a relief to escape from the heavy, noisy traffic by walking the back streets and laneways. Within seconds, it is possible to be out of earshot of the noise of the traffic and peeking into pretty lanes while listening to birdsong. And there you can see the bike storage solution which many people in the Inner West of Sydney employ for their bikes: the front verandah, gate, fence, window bars or steps of their Victorian terrace house …Beautiful bikes in front of beautiful houses.

This is a common method of storage in Montreal. Railings make perfect bike racks.

Noone seems to do it here in Newcastle even though there are quite a few houses with this type of fence, but down in Sydney everyone had bikes tied up ut the front of their houses. Storage space is much tighter there and I think that is the reason.
