I picked up these little green gators for a few dollars at the local army disposal store recently as I thought they would make great wet weather wear, especially if teamed with short gumboots (though I don’t have a pair of those yet). Today, in the sporadic rain we have had, they worked well, helping to keep my shoes dry both from falling rain (which was not terribly heavy when I was out riding) and also when riding through some of the enormous puddles which have formed due to the combination of the heavy rain and the ground being so waterlogged lately ….
I am hoping that with gumboots and my weatherproof jacket, they will provide sufficient rain protection when worn with a skirt and tights and a waterproof garbage bag skirt over the top.

I never would’ve thought of using gators on a bike.
It was an original idea of mine which I thought others might like to try too. I am trying to work out how to keep my feet dry in the wet without carrying extra shoes, the gators can be locked up with the bike and when worn with tights which dry quickly, should keep my feet dry in heavy rain, I hope!
I just made a purchase at the army disposal for the same reason. I didn’t want gumboots as they are quite heavy, but, found some light, waterproof, rubber snowboots . . . and, bliss, they’re fur-lined! Riding home in the rain at midnight my toes are warm and DRY!
They sound fantastic! Especially the fur! I may have to go back to the army disposal store to find some of those.
